A Legacy Built on Innovation and Service
Woollett’s story began in the post-war era and quickly became part of the technological transformation of British homes. In 1947, a second shop opened focusing on the then-emerging television market. The real boom came after 1951, when the Holme Moss Transmitter went live, allowing viewers to receive more channels than just the BBC. This marked the beginning of an exciting expansion into televisions, washing machines, and fridges.
In 1958, a young apprentice named Roger Smith joined as a radio and TV engineer. His commitment to quality and customer service saw him rise through the ranks, eventually taking over the sales arm of the business. By 1987, Woollett had officially separated its sales and service divisions, forming a new entity – Woollett Service.
During the early 1960s, founder Stanley Woollett played a pivotal role in forming Combined Independent (North) Ltd, a regional buying group later affiliated with Combined Independent (Holdings) Ltd. This network eventually led to the founding of EURONICS in 1966 – now Europe’s largest electrical buying group. Woollett’s membership in Euronics ensures access to top brands at competitive prices, backed by full manufacturer warranties.
As approved installers for Euronics, Freeview, and Freesat, Woollett’s expert team has always delivered dependable, high-quality installations.
Roger Smith retired in 2007, but the Woollett name continued to thrive under Andrew, who led the business into a new era by opening another Otley shop. In 2010, David Kelk joined as a partner, and the company was rebranded Woollett Home Electrical Ltd. Their shared vision drove further growth, including the 2014 acquisition of Peter Dyer Home Electrical in Ilkley – where David had previously served as Sales Director in the 1990s.
